Romanian flag carrier Tarom expects a gross profit of RON27,470 (€5,906) this year, according to the draft budget for the year put up for debate on the transport ministry website. The company has not provided any estimation of the expected net result.

Tarom last posted profit in 2007 and in the last few years the airline has been losing market share to its low cost competitors, which have been expanding rapidly. Tarom posted a gross loss of RON46.9mn in 2016.

According to the draft budget, the flag carrier expects total revenues of RON1.5bn, while investments should total RON440.2mn this year.

Last year, Tarom welcomed a second leased Boeing 737-800 NG to its fleet, which replaced the two Airbus A310 aircraft that went out of use last year. Tarom representatives have repeatedly pointed out that it is necessary to change the fleet in order to make its activity more efficient.
