Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's government saw its favorability surge 4.0% to 67.3% according to a Kyodo News study, on February 10-11. The uptick comes after LDP and its allies won the recent parliamentary race with dominance. This change indicates a major mandate for Takaichi, indicating that the Japanese electorate are now prioritising political stability and decisive economic intervention over the recent scandals which once tarnished this ruling party.

The report finds 50.9% of residents are on board with a two-year freeze on food sales tax and that 56.3% appreciate that the LDP and Japan Innovation Party now hold more than two-thirds of the House of Representatives. Namely, the LDP moved from 198 to 316 seats, while JIP gained 36. By contrast the Centrist Reform Alliance collapsed from 167 seats to 49, its heads Yoshihiko Noda and Tetsuo Saito resigning. However, 60.2% of voters criticised the LDP for campaigning for candidates that had previously been associated with financial scandals.

As for Takaichi, she was scolded for calling the quickest snap election in post-war history, but 64.9% believed the result correctly reflected the national mood. Rising expenses continued to top 52.8% of concerns. They ultimately say the LDP’s core support is solid at 40.8%. The landslide win gives the government enough power in the legislature to advance its economic and security plans with little opposition at home.
