Northern Albania was hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.1 on the Richter scale on August 11, causing damage to some buildings, though there were no victims.
Albania is part of an earthquake-prone zone, registering quakes frequently. Another quake of the same magnitude struck western Albania on July 4.
The earthquake happened at 03:38 pm local time with the epicentre north of the capital of Tirana in the city of Bulqize. The depth of the quake in the epicentre was 10km, according to Albania’s Institute of Geosciences, Energy, Water and Environment.
Small aftershocks also occurred at Bulqize on August 12. The quake, which was followed by 17 aftershocks in total, was felt in neighbouring Bosnia & Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia and Montenegro.
