The annual growth of Macedonia's industrial sales accelerated to 6.9% in January from 1.8% y/y the month earlier, with improved performance in the manufacturing sector, statistics office data indicated on March 16.
According to the latest GDP data, mining and manufacturing sectors, which are in the same group that also include the electricity, gas and water supply, posted a growth of 1.4% in 2015, while the manufacturing industry, alone fell 2% y/y.
Domestic turnover in industry in January fell by 1.1% y/y, whereas non-domestic
turnover in industry increased by 8.6% y/y, the statistics office said.
The manufacturing sales grew 8.4% in January, up from 2.7% y/y increase the month before. The mining sector sales plunged 25%, widening from a 13.6% decline in December 2015.
The sales in the energy subgroup showed the biggest decline, (-53.5% y/y) in January, followed by the sector of intermediate goods industries, except energy, which dropped 10.5% y/y.
The sector of capital goods showed the biggest increase in January, 30.4% up from 14.2% growth a month earlier.
