Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam urged militants to refrain from dragging Lebanon into the escalating conflict between Iran, the United States, and Israel.
The warning appears directed at Hezbollah amid ongoing tensions with Israel. On February 28, the IDF launched strikes on Hezbollah infrastructure in southern Lebanon, asserting the Shi'ite group was attempting to revive sites in violation of the ceasefire agreement. The timing suggests Israeli efforts to preempt potential Hezbollah intervention in the Iran conflict.
"In light of the dangerous developments the region is witnessing, I return and implore all Lebanese people to exercise wisdom and patriotism, placing the interest of Lebanon and the Lebanese above any calculation," Salam stated in a post on X. "And I repeat that we will not accept anyone dragging the country into adventures that threaten its security and unity."
President Joseph Aoun reinforced Salam's position following meetings with the Prime Minister, Public Works Minister Fayez Rasamny, US Ambassador to Lebanon Michel Issa, and Army Commander Gen. Rodolphe Haykal. Aoun stated that shielding Lebanon from external conflicts and preserving its sovereignty, security, and stability are absolute priorities, LBCI reported.
