Kazakhstan takes over rotating chairmanship in OSCE.

Kazakhstan took over the rotating chairmanship in the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe . The country took the presidency amid growing concerns about the situation of human rights and media. The concerns were presented by director of the OSCEs Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, Janex Lenarcic in December 2009. Kazakh foreign minister Kanat Saudabayev in a statement issued after taking the chairmanship pledged to uphold the fundamental principles and values of the organization and to proceed according to the interest of all participating states. The priorities of the Kazakh presidency in the OSCE will be presented by Saudabayev in Vienne on Jan 14. However, it is already known that the foreign minister plans to visit the South Caucasus , the Balkans, Eastern Europe and Central Asia in 2010. Moreover, the country will appoint a personal representative for stalled conflicts, crisis resolution, environmental affairs, transport, taking of intolerance and discrimination, election monitoring and election problems for better and more efficient coordination of the related efforts of the OSCE member-states. Kazakh media outlets said that Bulat Nurgaliyev may be appointed at the post. Until, Jan 1, 2010 , Nurgaliyev was secretary general of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
