IDF Spokesperson Effie Defrin announced that Israel is considering a ground invasion of Lebanon following Hezbollah attacks on Israeli territory. The statement came after Defence Minister Israel Katz designated Hezbollah Secretary General Naim Qassem as an IDF target in a post on X.

Hezbollah launched rockets and drones toward Haifa and central Israel on the morning of March 2, prompting Israeli airstrikes that reportedly killed Mohammed Raad, head of Hezbollah's parliamentary bloc. IDF Chief of the General Staff Eyal Zamir subsequently confirmed Israel will commence an offensive military campaign against Hezbollah in Lebanon, without specifying whether a ground incursion was being considered.

"Hezbollah has chosen to launch a campaign, and it will pay a heavy price," Defrin said in a press statement. "All options are on the table."

An Israeli security source told Al-Hadath that "the operation in Lebanon will be broad and comprehensive and may include a ground entry," suggesting preparations for a large-scale incursion that could fundamentally alter the security situation along Israel's northern border.

The IDF confirmed at 11:18 local time that it struck a senior Hezbollah operative in Beirut, with Kan News reporting that the attack consisted of a targeted strike on the Dahiyeh neighbourhood. Photographs of the strike have since circulated on social media.
