Iran's parliament deputy speaker Ali Nikzad has flatly rejected Trump's claims that negotiations with Tehran are under way, saying the Strait of Hormuz will not be reopened and no talks will take place, Tasnim reported on March 24.

"There will be no negotiations with those in whom no trace of conscience or honour can be seen," Nikzad said, adding that Iran would not negotiate with "someone who is a liar and shows no sign of honour, humanity or conscience."

Nikzad said Trump had already demonstrated his untrustworthiness in two previous rounds of negotiations and challenged the US president to name who he had allegedly been speaking with. "If Trump is telling the truth, he must announce with whom he has been negotiating," he said. "His threats are one big lie."

The deputy speaker said the US had made a strategic miscalculation in believing it could change Iran's system as it had done in other countries, but that the country had held firm with the support of its people and armed forces.

Nikzad said Iran's military campaign against US bases in the region demonstrated the country's capabilities and vowed the conflict would extend into the energy and economic sphere.

"The military war will turn into an energy war and will push them into a dead end in the economy and energy," he said.

He said the Strait of Hormuz would not return to its previous status and that Iran would seek compensation for damages inflicted, in line with directives from Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

"War is a war of wills," Nikzad said, "and the people have taken to the streets to show they will confront any conspiracy."
