Iran Khodro Diesel (IKD), an industrial vehicle manufacturer under largest Iranian automaker Iran Khodro Co (IKCO), on September 12 signed a deal with Mercedes-Benz Trucks to begin imports of complete knock-down (CKD) truck kits for assembly, IKCOpress.com reported.
Signed in the Daimler factory in Worth am Rhein, the deal aims to provide Iran with the latest Mercedes trucks, enabling the removal from the roads of ageing Benz-branded trucks based on 1970s designs.
Mercedes-Benz Trucks, part of Daimler Trucks, said in a press release: “IKD has been designated as the exclusive distributor of Daimler in Iran, and will provide support on behalf of the truck division.”
IKD stopped its production of the old Mercedes-Benz tipper truck LK 2624 in December 2015 after the government banned it on the basis of poor emissions standards. Iran had produced the orange-coloured vehicle since before the 1979 revolution.
