A China Energy delegation has arrived in Uzbekistan to discuss the implementation of joint projects, according to the Uzbek Ministry for Investment and Trade. During talks, the Chinese company announced its readiness to build solar power plants with 1 GW of capacity in the Kashkadarya and Bukhara regions.
China Energy and the ministry want to see 400 MW of the capacity online by the end of the year, as well as the launch of a cement plant they are collaborating on. The commissioning of 600 MW of the 1GW of solar power is scheduled for 2024.
The agreement signed with China Energy in February also provided for the creation of a power plant near Samarkand. The total capacity of the power plants across the Samarkand, Kashkadarya and Bukhara regions is to be 2 GW.
On May 19, China’s President Xi Jinping presented his grand development plan for Central Asia. He said that China and Central Asia should increase their oil and gas trading, develop energy cooperation across industrial chains and boost cooperation in the energy transition and civilian use of nuclear energy.
