The country has climbed 2 places to the 19th position in the 2010 global retail development ranking of management consulting company AT Kearney. According to the report, Bulgaria is still at the early investment phase and local trade marks are rather few while foreign retailers have managed to gain good market positions. AT Kearney notes that the purchasing power gap between bigger and smaller settlements is rather large. The hypermarkets and the discounters are to drive the retail business in the cities while the supermarkets are to prevail in the smaller settlements.
