Serbia may obtain EU candidate status by 2011 and can expect to become EU member in 2017, British ambassador to Serbia Stephen Wordsworth said in an interview with Vecernje Novosti daily. Wordsworth said it was not realistic to expect that all Western Balkan states would become EU members by 2014. The ambassador noted that it would be more realistic that Serbia would get EU full membership in seven years, on condition it puts all the effort in EU integration process and removes current obstacles. He also noted that Serbia is more likely to obtain EU candidate status next year.
