Russia has no organised tourist flow to Iran or Israel and travel to both countries is possible only on an individual basis, the Russian Union of Travel Industry (RST) said on February 28, as US and Israeli forces launched coordinated strikes on the Iranian capital.
"At present, organised tourist flow to these destinations is practically absent. Tour operators are not forming mass tour products to these countries, and travel is possible primarily in an individual format," RST press service head Artur Abdyukhanov told NEWS.ru on February 28.
Abdyukhanov said the Ministry of Economic Development was continuing to inform tour operators, travel agents and tourists about the ongoing security threat in both countries, with warnings based on data from Russia's Foreign Ministry.
The statement came as Israeli media reported that Israeli and US air forces had conducted a joint operation targeting, among other sites, the residence of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Tehran.
The strikes on the government quarter were carried out as part of an operation named "Shield of Judah," according to Israeli media, which said the operation was aimed at the strategic weakening of Iran's leadership.
Explosions were reported across Tehran, Isfahan and Qom on February 28, with Iran closing its entire airspace, cutting mobile phone services and halting trading on the Tehran Stock Exchange. The rial fell to a record low of IRR1,749,500 against the dollar on the free market.
