Bosnia’s retail sales growth slows further in May
By bne IntelliNews July 4, 2017

Bosnia & Herzegovina’s working-day adjusted retail sales, measured at constant prices, increased by 4.3% y/y in May, slowing from a 5.1% y/y expansion the previous month, as the growth of retail trade excluding motor fuel expanded at a slightly lower pace, the country’s statistics office reported on July 4.

Retail sales have continued the upward trend from 2016, suggesting that Bosnia’s domestic consumption, which is expected to support economic growth in the near-term, is increasing.

Retail sales of automotive fuel grew 8.1% y/y in May, slowing from a 9.3% y/y increase in April. Retail trade excluding automotive fuel expanded by 3.2% y/y, after going up by 3.8% y/y the month before.

Within the latter group, retail trade in food, beverages and tobacco increased 0.7% y/y, after going up by a revised 5.6% y/y in April. The annual growth of retail trade of non-food products expanded to 4.8% y/y from 2.6% y/y in April.

In monthly terms, Bosnia’s retail trade rose 0.7% in May, reversing a revised 3.9% monthly fall in April.
