US electric vehicles (EVs) manufacturer Tesla has officially opened a local subsidiary in Morocco’s Casablanca, marking the company’s first direct presence in North Africa, MAP reported on June 13. 

According to the deal, the new subsidiary will allow the Moroccan market to host Tesla’s full range of products and services, including solar panels, batteries, support, and training.

The new subsidiary will manage the import, sale, and maintenance of EVs, as well as vehicle replacement services in Morocco. In addition to automotive services, Tesla plans to roll out energy solutions, including solar systems, energy storage, and possibly electricity distribution in the future.

Tesla, owned by billionaire Elon Musk, agreed to set up the Moroccan subsidiary in May 2025, with a starting capital of MAD 27.5mn ($2.75mn). The company is headquartered in the Crystal Tower at Casablanca Marina, one of the city's central business hubs.

The subsidiary was created by two Dutch-based entities: Tesla International and Tesla Motors Netherlands. Rafael Arqueza Martin and Shahin Oliver Khorshidpanah will manage Tesla’s Moroccan operations.

Morocco is expected to become a strategic hub for Tesla’s broader vision in Africa and sustainable innovation. Tesla previously installed Supercharger stations in Morocco starting in 2021, with locations now in Tangier, Casablanca, Fez, Agadir, Marrakech, Rabat, and other cities.

Founded in 2003, Tesla designs and manufactures electric vehicles (EVs), clean energy products, and related technologies. Its global engineering headquarters is located in Palo Alto, California, while the company's corporate headquarters moved to Austin, Texas, in 2021.
