Two piers and two vessels were damaged following a Ukrainian drone attack in Russia's Krasnodar region on December 22, with fires covering between 1,000 and 1,500 square metres at the piers, Komsomolskaya Pravda reported.
The incident at Volna is the latest in attacks targeting infrastructure in southern Russia since the Ukraine conflict began in February 2022.
The latest Ukrainian incursion past Crimea occurred overnight in the village of Volna in Temryuk district after an attack by Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles, according to the regional operational headquarters.
Firefighters continued battling the blazes at the piers. No casualties were reported among ship crews or shore personnel, as all were evacuated in time.
A second fire at a pipeline terminal in Volna village also occurred due to falling debris from a Ukrainian drone, covering approximately 100 square metres.
Ukrainian armed formations attacked 16 settlements in 11 districts of Belgorod region over the past 24 hours, using 66 unmanned aerial vehicles and five artillery shells. The attacks killed two people and wounded one person.
On December 21, the Russian Defence Ministry press service stated that Russian air defence systems shot down 35 Ukrainian drones attempting to strike targets on Russian territory. Of these, 23 were downed over the Black Sea, six over Crimea, three over Belgorod region and three over the Sea of Azov.
The Russian army conducted a series of strikes on Ukrainian military industry enterprises, the Ministry of Defence stated on December 21. The strikes were carried out by operational-tactical aviation, missile forces, attack drones and artillery of the Russian Armed Forces.
The Krasnodar region borders the Sea of Azov and has experienced periodic drone attacks on port facilities and energy infrastructure.
