Internet connectivity has become a problem for the parts of the Nagorno-Karabakh enclave still held by ethnic Armenians because the main internet line running from Vardenis to Stepanakert passes through the Karvatchar region handed over to Azerbaijan and the other internet cable that runs via Shushi (Shusa to Azerbaijanis) was damaged in the six-week war that ended earlier this month, Karabakh Telecom deputy director Mkhitar Mirzoyan has told Hetq.

Attempts to fix the cable that runs via Shushi were under way, he added.

Mirzoyan reportedly declined to comment on whether an internet cable passing through an area of Nagorno-Karabakh under Azerbaijani control might pose a security risk to Armenian internet users.

He also dealt with questions on why it’s become difficult to place a mobile call to Nagorno-Karabakh from Armenia, responding that the system was overloaded because people were making many calls and talking for a long time because the calls were now free.
