Ex-Kazakh leader Nazarbayev’s grandson given suspended prison term for breaking into London apartments and biting police sergeant’s hand
Former Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev’s 29-year-old grandson, Aisultan Nazarbayev, has been given a suspended 18-month prison term for biting a police sergeant in London. The sentencing was handed down by Southwark Crown Court in London on October 18.
The court also ruled that Aisultan Nazarbayev must continue with drug addiction treatment, carry out 140 hours of community work and pay a £1,000 fine along with £5,000 as compensation for damages. Aisultan’s drug addiction has been subject to long-standing rumours on the internet in Kazakhstan. Nursultan Nazarbayev stepped down in March but continues to hold power over Kazakhstan as head of the Security Council and Father of the Nation. He retains his lifetime immunity to prosecution.
According to trial documents, Aisultan broke into an apartment of Ksenia Shevelyova via a balcony, which he damaged along with some of her furniture. He then jumped on to the balcony of another woman, who called the police. Shevelyova insisted that she does not know the man.
A police officer, Sergeant Ross Sambrook, attempted to stop Nazarbayev from entering the woman's apartment from the balcony, but the ex-president’s grandson did not comply with the officer’s instructions and then assaulted him by biting his hand. The officer was apparently left with blood gushing from a deep wound.
