At least five people were killed and 12 were injured in a shooting attack at the Ramot intersection in Jerusalem, Israeli emergency services confirmed on the morning of September 8.

Four victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while a fifth succumbed to their wounds at Shaare Zedek Medical Center, according to Israeli ambulance service Magen David Adom (MDA).

Six people reportedly sustained serious gunshot wounds, two were moderately injured, and three suffered light injuries from glass fragments. Additional victims were treated for panic-related symptoms.

Two perpetrators were identified, both of whom were neutralised at the scene, Israeli police confirmed. A security source who spoke to Israeli state broadcaster Kan 11 stated that the attackers originated from the Arab villages of Kubaiba and Qatana in the Binyamin area of northern Israel, near the Jerusalem Mountains and Neve Ilan.

One weapon recovered at the scene was identified as a Carlo rifle, which is known to be commonly manufactured in various locations, including areas of Judea and Samaria, otherwise known as the West Bank.

Hamas welcomed the attack in a statement, calling it "a natural response to the crimes of the occupation and the war of annihilation in Gaza. This is a clear message that Israel's plans, the destruction of Gaza City and the desecration of the Al-Aqsa Mosque will not go without consequences."

"A tragic morning in Jerusalem: two terrorists boarded a bus on route 62 and opened fire on passengers and bystanders. Many were murdered and others severely injured," Sharren Haskel, an Israeli government minister, said on social media.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is conducting a situation assessment with security establishment heads following the attack, the Jerusalem Post reported.
