Kazakhstan to sell 600,000 tonnes of grain to South Korea.

Kazakhstan plans to sell 600,000 tonnes of grain to South Korea , deputy PM Umirzak Shukeyev has stated. He explained that a contract is being drafted with a South Korean company for grain to be shipped via China . To remind you, Kazakhstan harvested 21mn tonnes of grain last year, up from 16.5mn tonnes in 2008. The country plans to double grain exports to 10mn tonnes in 2009-2010 marketing year. Significantly, plan to sell grain to South Korea is a part of wider strategy to diversify exports market for Kazakh grain. It is also worth noting that China will serve for the first time as a transit country for exports of Kazakh grain.
