Kazakhstan and South Korean to complete Balkhash power plant by 2015.

Kazakhstan and South Korean plans to complete construction of a major new power plant by 2015. This was stated during an official ceremony for the start of construction. To remind you, state-owned SamrukKazyna, Korea Electric Power Corp. and construction company Samsung C&T signed an agreement on the power plant last year. The project is valued between USD 2.5-4.5bn. SamrukKazyna holds a 25% plus 1 share in the project, the Korean companies own a 65% stake and copper major Kazakhmys holds the rest. The plant will have 1,320 MW capacity which can be increased to 2,640 MW.
