Kazakhstan and China agree on railway border crossing point.

By bne IntelliNews June 11, 2012
Kazakhstan and China signed an agreement on a new border crossing port via railway in Khorgos, the Kazakh Transportation and Communication Ministry has informed. Khorgos will become the second railway crossing point between the countries after Alatau Pass. Opening of the crossing point is connected with the construction of a new railway in Kazakhstan (Zhetygen-Khorgos) and in China (Khorgos-Jinghe). Significantly, Khorgos is a vital point on the New Silk Road project which is strongly promoted by Kazakhstan (recently the idea was raised at the Kazakh presidents meeting with foreign investors). The project assumes creation of railway tracks and roads for Chinese goods transportation across Kazakhstan mainly to Europe and the Middle East.
