Czech PM nominates Vlastimil Picek as defence minister.

By bne IntelliNews March 19, 2013
Czech Prime Minister Petr Necas nominated on March 18 Vlastimil Picek as defence minister, Necas said in a statement on the governments website. The post of the defence minister has been vacant for nearly three months since Necas fired Karolina Peake in December 2012 after just a week on the job. Peake, who is also deputy prime minister and head of the smallest ruling party LIDEM, said she does not approve the nomination of Picek. Necas fired Peake as she sacked a number of top officials at the ministry against his will. Picek is currently first deputy defence minister and former military chief-of-staff. President Milos Zeman, who said last week that he expects Picek to head the ministry, will appoint him later today (March 19).
