Belarus seeks cooperation with Kazakhstan.

By bne IntelliNews November 12, 2012
Belarusian PM Mikhail Myasnikovitch visited Kazakhstan seeking greater cooperation. During the visit several agreements were signed including: a protocol adopted as a result of the talks, a memorandum between the Kazakh Industry and New Technologies Ministry and the Belarusian Industry Ministry on the setting up a joint Belarusian-Kazakh industrial and technological park of agricultural and utilities technologies, and a cooperation agreement between Kazakhtelecom and Gersis Software LLC. Belarus also offered several cooperation opportunities to Kazakhstan. Belorusneft started talks with KazMunayGas on provision of technologies for enhanced oil recovery in the fields. The Belarusian company declared interest in entering the Kazakh market through establishing a joint venture. The parties also agreed to create a joint venture on the premises of Mogilevkhimvolokno JSC, a producer of dimethyl terephthalate, PET chips and polyester fibers. The production of the JV would be aimed at external markets as well as the Common Economic Space. Total cost of this project is estimated at USD 1bn. Besides, the Belarusian government offered a 51% stake in mobile operator MTS Belarus to Kazakh companies. Belarus estimated the value of the stake at USD 1bn while some analyst put the figure at USD 700mn. Significantly, after creation of the Customs Union and Common Economic Space, Belarus increased its efforts to get investments from Kazakhstan.
