The value of works construction companies from Bosnias Serb Republic performed abroad in the first half of 2012 soared 186.5% on the year, the Republics statistics office said in a statement but gave no value figure. The positive performance was achieved thanks to a 291% climb in the value of works on civil engineering projects, which was more than enough to compensate for the 37.5% drop in the value of performed building works abroad in the first six months of the year. Yet, the average number of workers on construction sites declined 23% y/y in Jan-Jun, while the number of working hours was down nearly 27% over the period. In the second quarter of 2012 alone, the value of performed construction works abroad by firms from the Serb Republic jumped 183.4% y/y and 261% q/q thanks to an increase in cost on civil engineering projects. The average number of workers fell an annual 27% and the volume of performed effective hours shrank 38% y/y in Apr-Jun. In a quarterly comparison, the number of workers was unchanged, while the volume of working hours rose 12% in the second three months of 2012.
