US pharmaceutical companies interested in expanding operations in Turkey.

Industry minister Nihat Ergun had meetings with the executives of the leading US pharmaceutical companies, including Merck, UCB, local daily Milliyet reported. Merck is interested in expanding its operations in Turkey while UCB, which currently produce its products through its local partner, is exploring investment opportunities, Ergun said. Earlier this week, Ergun announced that US-based healthcare company Baxter plans to increase its investment in Turkey and considers production of new drugs in the country. Baxter is planning an investment of USD 170-180mn in the first phase.
