By bne IntelliNews January 10, 2011
Macedonian state news agency MIA reported that UN mediator in the name dispute between Macedonia and Greece, Matthew Nimetz, has convened a meeting with representatives of the two sides, Zoran Jolevski and Adamantios Vasilakis respectively. The meeting will take place in New York on February 9. Details about the meeting will be announced closer to its date, MIA quoted the UN Spokesman's Office as saying. Macedonias PM Nikola Gruevski commented that it depends on Greece whether there will be constructive talks. On January 6, Jolevski said in an interview for Voice of America that Macedonia is sincerely ready to enter the talks for finding a mutually acceptable solution, one that will protect the identity and dignity of the Macedonian nation. MIA also said that recently Greek media reported, citing government sources, that the upcoming meeting in New York will be "informal", intended to review the positions of both parties. The resolution of the name dispute is a prerequisite for Macedonias membership in NATO and the EU.
