U.S. Steel Serbia kicks off construction of USD 51mn facility.

By bne IntelliNews January 6, 2011
U.S. Steel Serbia started construction of a facility for pulverized coal injection under a USD 51mn investment, emportal.rs reported, citing USSS general manager Matthew Perkins. The new facility will meet the modern environmental protection standards, Perkins added. According to earlier reports, this system will allow USSS to reduce coke consumption by some 25% and thus cut production costs. Coke is used as a raw material for the production of steel and iron. USSS operates units in the Serbian towns Smederevo, Sabac and Kucevo. The company manufactures and sells hot and cold rolled sheet products as well as tin mill products shaped as coils and sheets. United States Steel Corporation acquired bankrupt Serbian steel company Sartid back in 2003.
