By bne IntelliNews January 4, 2013
Telenor Serbia will increase investments in developing its mobile and fixed telephony network in 2013, the company's CEO Ove Fredheim told news agency Beta without providing a figure for the planned investment. The company, part of the Norway's Telenor, invested EUR 300mn in the Balkan country over the past six years, Fredheim said. At present, the Serbian operator has an excellent quality network ready to introduce 4G mobile technology but investments will go into increasing the data transfer capacities and continuing to extend the coverage, which will boost the potential for bigger revenue, Fredheim added. According to him, the fact that Telenor Serbia managed to return EUR 122.7mn to its parent group in the beginning of 2012 is a sign that Serbia is a good place for foreign investors. Norway's Telenor entered Serbia in July 2006 when it bought existing mobile operator Mobi 063 for EUR 1.5bn. According to Serbia's electronic telecommunications regulator, Ratel, Telenor became the leading mobile telephony operator in Serbia in terms of revenue in 2011 for a first time since entering the country. Telenor's competitors on the Serbian mobile telephony market include state-controlled Telekom Srbija and Vip Mobile, owned by Telekom Austria.
