Taiwanese AU Optronics launches construction of EUR 191mn plant in Slovakia.

Taiwanese electronics producer AU Optronics started its investment project in Slovakia , the company announced. It will build a new plant for the production of LCD modules for TV sets in the Trencin industrial park in the western part of the country. The plant will occupy an area of around 200,000sqm and its commercial operations are scheduled to start in 2011. The output capacity of the facility will be 2.4mn units per year. AU Optronics planned to invest EUR 191.3mn in its Slovak operations over the next three years, creating 1,300 new job positions. The indirect effect on employment is estimated as the creation of further 2,000 jobs. The project is supported by state investment aid, amounting to EUR 38.3mn through long-term assets and tax relief as well as an EUR 5.6mn state loan for land purchases.
