German car maker BMW considers building a new plant in eastern Europe and Slovakia is one of the potential locations, Hospodarske Noviny business daily reported citing BMW's board member Ian Robertson. According to the daily, the investment could reach EUR 1bn and create 1,000 jobs. The Slovak economy ministry's spokesman Stanislav Jurikovic said that his office is aware of BMW's interest in Slovakia. In reaction to the daily's report, economy minister Tomas Malatinsky said that the government has not held talks with BMW on the potential project. In May 2012 Slovak media also talked about a potential investment of BMW in Slovakia but the car maker then denied the reports. BMW was reportedly choosing between Slovakia and Mexico for a new plant for electric cars which should have created 30,000 new jobs. Slovakia has three car making plants, run by Germany's Volkswagen, France's PSA Peugeot Citroen and South Korea's Kia Motors.
