Swiss energy utility Advanced Power planned to invest EUR 600mn in the construction of a new power plant, project manager Adrian Bobula announced. He noted that the new plant would use a combined cycle and would have an installed capacity of 800MW. It would be located in the city of Szeged in the southern part of the country close to the border with Serbia and Romania in order to take advantage of the proximity to large gas storage reservoirs in the area. The construction works were scheduled to start in 2012 while the company planned to apply for the required permits in mid-2010. The facility was expected to become operational in 2015 and should have a lifespan of at least 25 years.
