South African retailer Pick n Pay said it has invested USD 3.5mn in opening its second store in Zambia. The Ndola store is the second of seven planned for the country over the next four years, the company said in a statement. Pick n Pay opened its first Zambian store in Lusaka in July 2010. With the opening of its second store, Pick n Pay has employed over 300 Zambian citizens and by the end of this year the number of local employees is expected to exceed 600. Pick n Pay has a total of 230 local suppliers in Zambia, out of which 131 are local manufacturers. The Pick n Pay Group has a total of 775 stores made up of hypermarkets, supermarkets and family stores. |
