Slovakias economy grows by 3.5% in Q1 2011.

Slovakias economy grew by 3.5% y/y in the first quarter of 2011, keeping the same pace of expansion as in the previous quarter, according to flash estimates of the statistics office. The growth was supported mainly by foreign demand and was better than market expectations for a rise of 3.3%. Seasonally adjusted the GDP grew by 3.6% y/y and by 1% compared to the fourth quarter of 2010. Total employment increased by 2% y/y to 2.3mn in the first three months of 2011. In quarterly terms, the employment rose by 0.6%. The statistics office will release detailed GDP data on June 8, 2011.
