Slovakia to allocate EUR 25mn to nuclear waste management company JAVYS.

Slovak state-owned nuclear waste management company JAVYS will receive EUR 25mn from the National Nuclear Fund this year for the decommissioning of nuclear power plant facilities and the disposal of used nuclear fuel and radioactive waste, Webnoviny reported. JAVYS will spend EUR 7.5mn for the handling of radioactive waste generated from the decommissioning of A1 nuclear power plant in Jaslovske Bohunice, in western Slovakia. Some EUR 4.5mn will be allocated for the first phase of the decommissioning of the two units at V1 nuke plant. Last month, JAVYS said it will invest EUR 26mn to build a new intermediate storage facility for radioactive waste near the nuclear power plant in Jaslovske Bohunice. The construction works are expected to take about two years and the facility is projected to be put into operation in 2017. It will be built on an area of 7,600 sq m and will take in 2,500 concrete containers.
