Slovakia's economic sentiment worsens in August 2011.

Slovakia's economic sentiment index worsened for a second month in a row going down by 1.8 pps y/y to 91.8 points in August 2011, the statistics office said. On a monthly basis, the index declined by 2.4 pps, reflecting the deterioration of all components except for the industry. Confidence in industry rose by 9.6 pps m/m to 2.3, returning to a positive value after two months of decline on improved expectations for production and stocks. Confidence in the services sector deteriorated by 8.6 pps m/m on negative evaluation of all three components - the current and expected demand and the development of the business situation. Retail trade confidence dropped by 3pps m/m on following negative evaluation of the expected business situation and the stocks. Confidence in the construction sector deteriorated by 1.5pps m/m as builders are less optimistic about employment. In August, the consumer confidence indicator decreased by 0.8 pps m/m with more and more people expecting unemployment to rise.
