Slovakia's economic sentiment improves slightly in February 2013.

Slovakia's economic sentiment index improved slightly in February following eight consecutive months of declines, data from the countrys statistics office showed. The value of the economic sentiments three-month running average rose by 0.9 points from January to 88.6 points in February, but remained at its lowest level since December 2009. The improvement in the economic sentiment indicator was affected mainly by a favourable development in the services sector and partially also in the retail trade sector and in consumer sentiment. The confidence indicator in services increased in February by 10.3 points to 15 points, affected by positive evaluations in its all the three components with the most considerable improvement seen in the expected demand. The confidence indicator in retail trade strengthened by 1.6 points to 7.3 points, affected by more optimistic evaluations of the business situation over the past three months and by a lower stock of goods. The confidence indicator in industry weakened by 3 points to -12.3 points affected mostly by an expected decrease of industrial production in the next three months. In the construction sector, the confidence indicator remained unchanged at -54 points, as both of its items - current demand and expected employment were flat m/m. The consumer sentiment improved in February with the indicator gaining 4.2 points to -32.9 points thanks to improved expectations of its three components - economic situation, unemployment and financial situation of households. However, the consumer confidence indicator was by 9.3 points below the long-term average. On an annual basis, the economic sentiment indicator was by 8.8 points lower in February 2013. It was by 16.7 points lower than the long-term average.
