Slovakia postal market liberalisation to boost costs for small clients.

By bne IntelliNews November 24, 2011
The full liberalisation of Slovakias postal services market as of January 2012 will most probably gradually lower the costs of postal services for large clients, but prices for smaller clients and individuals are expected to rise, according to the Postal Regulatory Office, quoted by SITA news agency. The full liberalisation will come as the monopoly of national postal operator Slovenska Posta on letters less than 50 grams will be removed. Slovakia has 23 registered postal operators, but they are not obliged to provide services to everyone. The alternative postal operators are expected to show higher interest in providing large scale services to, for example, banks, telecom operators and insurers, and thus put a pressure on prices.
