Recently-elected Slovak PM Robert Fico is in favour of creating a joint Czech-Slovak freight railway company by merging state-owned CD Cargo and ZSSK, Ceska Pozice reported. ""If we were able to create a joint company it would basically have a better chance of surviving on the regional market where we are," Fico said during a visit to the Czech Republic. In September 2011, CD Cargo said it plans to spend up to CZK 20bn for acquisitions in Slovakia and Poland as it seeks to become a leader on the central European market. According to recent reports by Czech media, CD Cargo applied for licences to operate on the markets in Hungary and Austria. Fico also said expressed his support for the construction of a new nuclear reactor at Slovakia's Jaslovske Bohunice plant by a joint venture between Slovak state nuclear company JAVYS and Czech state-controlled power group CEZ.
