Serbia's mobile penetration rose to 143% in 2011 from 132.24% a year earlier after the number of mobile telephony users climbed to 10.18 million last year from 9.92 million in 2010, the agency for electronic telecommunications, Ratel, said. The fixed telephony penetration rose at a slower pace - to 42.56% in 2011 from 41.48% a year earlier, Ratel said in its annual market report. Serbia's mobile telephony revenue jumped to EUR 846.7mn last year from RSD 769.2mn in 2010. Three mobile operators are active in the country - the local arm of Norway's Telenor, the mobile unit of state-control Telekom Srbija and Vip Mobile, owned by Telekom Austria. Fixed telephony revenue generated by Serbian operators rose to RSD 35.7bn (EUR 311mn) last year from RSD 35.3mn in 2010. Telekom Srbija was a fixed telephony monopoly in Serbia until January 2010, when Telenor Serbia also acquired a fixed line operating licence. At the end of 2010 apart from Telekom Srbija and Telenor, local firm Orion Telekom also possessed a licence to offer fixed wireless telecommunication services.
