Number of foreign tourist stays in Hungary rises 8.5% in Jan-May 2012.

The number of foreign tourists staying at Hungary's public accommodation establishments increased by 8.5% y/y to 1.339mn in January to May 2012, the statistics office informed. Overnight stays by foreigners increased by 9.7% y/y to 3.596mn in the period. The number of domestic tourist visits declined by 2.8% y/y and overnights were down by 1.1% y/y. The revenue of Hungarian accommodation facilities increased by 5.7% y/y to HUF 91.9bn (EUR 319.6mn) in the first five months of 2012. In terms of individual segments, the hotel sector accounted for HUF 84.5bn of the total revenue, up 7% on the year. The average room occupancy in hotels increased to 41.3% in January to May 2012.
