Montenegro will benefit from EU membership, despite current sovereign debt problems in some euro area countries and an imminent European economic growth downturn, Moody's said following the EC's recommendation for opening accession talks with the country on October 12. The successful opening of the negotiations with the EU is also expected to have a positive impact on the credit rating of the country. "To a small, relatively low-wage economy, trade and investment integration with Europe brings long-term growth possibilities that it could not instigate on its own, " the credit rating agency noted. Montenegro will benefit from increased inexpensive funding as well as access to investment and technological upgrades that it could not realize on its own. The assistance in improving the political, judicial and administrative systems is however considered to be the greatest benefit to Montenegro from EU membership. |
