Macedonia climbs in global economic freedom ranking.

Macedonia ranked 43rd in 2012 Index of Economic Freedom compiled by The Heritage Foundation in partnership with The Wall Street Journal. The country's ranking has improved from 55th last year. Macedonia's overall score was 68.5 in the latest report, placing the country in the moderately free group. The country's latest overall score has increased by 2.5 points from last year, reflecting improvements in six of the 10 economic freedoms with a particularly large gain in business freedom. Within the Europe region, Macedonia is ranked 21st out of 43 countries. The country's overall score is above the world and regional averages. Across the 10 economic freedoms included in the index, Macedonia is best ranked in terms of monetary freedom (3rd) and its worst ranking is in the area of property rights (93rd). Macedonia compares favourably with other countries in SEE, including Albania (ranked 57th globally), Bulgaria (61st), Slovenia (69th), Montenegro (72nd), Croatia (83rd), Serbia (98th), and Bosnia (104th).
