The Pljevlja-based lead-zinc mine Gradir Montenegro (former Suplja Stijena) started production activities, business news portal SEEbiz.eu reported. As recalled, Slovenia's Gradir bought in August 2006 the insolvent lead-zinc mine for EUR 401,000, pledging additional investments of EUR 19mn in 5 years. The mine halted production in 2000 and entered insolvency procedures. Exploitation reserves of the mine were estimated to approximately 18mn tonnes and total geological reserves at 90mn tonnes. According to previous information, the annual production in the mine, currently employing some 80 workers, is to reach 1mn tonnes and the bulk of it is to be exported.
