Kia Motor Slovakia output up by 53.8% y/y in Jan-Oct.

Kia Motors Sovakia produced 185,460 cars in the first ten months of 2010, up by 53.8% y/y, the company revealed on its website. Three models are currently produced at KIA Motors Slovakia - cee'd, the C-segment car, and two SUV models, Sportage and Hyundai ix35. The two SUV models accounted for 50% of the vehicles produced in Jan-Oct and the three versions of the cee'd models accounted for the rest. Since 2006, when production was launched, Kia has produced 700,000 cars. The engine production unit also developed positively in the Jan-Oct period, increasing production by 34.7% y/y to 259,876 engines. Two types of gasoline engines and three types of diesel engines are manufactured at Kia's plants. The company has already hired more than 100 people and another 270 workers will be employed in a planned expansion of engine production. The move is expected to cost EUR 100mn and to increase the capacity from 300,000 to 450,000 units a year.
