Kazakhstans gas production up by 2.9% y/y in May.

In May, Kazakhstans gas production grew by 2.9% y/y to 3.3bn m3, State Statistics Agency has announced. In m/m terms, gas production rose by 0.4%. In Jan-May, gas production totaled 17bn m3, compared to 16.6bn m3 recorded in Jan-May 2011. The indicative plan on the gas extraction was fulfilled by 95.3% in May. Kazakhstan's internal demand for gas equaled 510.5mn m3 in May, which is 16.1% less m/m and 2.3% more than in May 2011. At the same time, gas transit through Kazakhstan reached 32.84bn m3 in Jan-May as compared to 32.14bn m3 in the corresponding period of 2011. In May alone gas transit through Kazakhstan amounted to 6.927bn m3 as compared to 7.07bn m3 in April and 7.55bn m3 in May 2011. Some 4.54bn m3 of the total volume of gas transit through Kazakhstan in Jan-May accounted for Central Asian gas.
