Kazakhstan starts military drilling with USA and UK.

By bne IntelliNews August 17, 2010
Military exercises with the USA and the UK has been launched in Kazakhstan. Around 1000 Kazakh servicemen, 45 American and 5 British soldiers are participating in the drilling. The 8th annual ,,Steppe eagle" programme is aimed to train Kazakh troops for future deployment at NATO peacekeeping missions. The exercises took place at Ili military range , 50 km north of Kazakhstan's former capital city of Almaty. Significantly, the USA, Russia and China are competing over the influence in Central Asia. Kazakhstan has been so far trying to balance the mentioned powers and will probably continue this policy. We consider that the USA want to pursue the drilling to demonstrate to Russia and China that Central Asia is not under their hegemony.
