Kazakhstan, as the OSCE chairman will send special envoy to Kyrgyzstan, this was announced by the chairperson-in-office Kanat Saudabayev. Zhanybek Karibzhanov was appointed the special representative. At the same time, the UN decided to appoint Jan Kubis UN deputy secretary-general and executive secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Europe as its special representative. Situation in Kyrgyzstan remains unstable. President Kurmanbek Bkaiyev ran away from the capital city of Bishkek while a temporary government leaded by Roza Otumbayev was established. The new government was supported by Russia , which at the same time sent around 200 soldiers to its Kyrgyz  military base in Kant. The authorities do not control situation in the country, fights and plundering are common. Kazakhstan closed its border with Kyrgyzstan but allows its citizens to enter the country. Moreover, additional controls on roads were introduced.

IntelliNews comment: Significantly, the situation in Kyrgyzstan presently does not pose a direct risk to stability in Kazakhstan. However, the authorities are taking pre-emptive measures and are increasing control. In coming days, we expect Kazakhstan to further intensify its actions in frame of the OSCE. However, it will take Moscows position in its policy. In long-run, continuing instability in Kyrgyzstan will have a negative impact on situation in Kazakhstan .
