Kazakhstan and South Korea seek closer cooperation.

Kazakhstan and South Korea agreed to work towards ,,substantial cooperation" for the development of nuclear industry. The statement was made after a meeting of Kazakh president Nursultan Nazarbayev with his South Korean counterpart - Lee Myung-bak. At the same time, a memorandum of understanding on nuclear cooperation was signed by state-owned companies. Under the document, the parties will seek active partnership for the joint development of uranium and the joint research of South Korea 's SMART. The latter refers to System-integrated Modular Advanced Reactors, an advanced 330 MW pressurized water power reactor invented by South Korea . The presidents also agreed to expand their partnership on various areas such as infrastructure, petroleum, the defence industry, information and technology, transportation, health care, agriculture and tourism (see the stories below).
