Kazakhstan and China to set up joint venture for gas pipeline construction.

Kazakhstan and China will establish a joint venture for the construction of the Beynau-Shymkent gas pipeline. The parity basis joint venture will be set up by KazTransGas and Trans-Asia Gas Pipeline. Beynau-Shymkent gas pipeline is on the list of the governments strategic projects. The route will be financed from the authorized capital of the joint venture which is USD 1bn - USD 500mn from each party (Kazakhstan will provide its part of the funds from the state-budget). Moreover, USD 3bn will come as a loan. Beynau-Shymkent project is part of a major gas pipeline project to China. The main goal of the new route is to provide gas to the southern part of the country as well as enabling gas exports to China. The final capacity of the pipeline will be 10bcm per annum.
